When I first started my business in 2011 I specialized in newborns. It was the first thing I studied and was drawn to being a new parent myself. I was obsessed with taking photos of my first daughter and it sparked this curiosity in me to learn everything I could about baby photography. I already had a camera and all the gear and had taken photography courses so I was onto learning specifically about babies.
There is so much more to newborn photography then I ever dreamed of. Tips and tricks to calm them, get them to sleep and keep them sleepy. There is also all the training on safe posing techniques and how to change poses without disrupting them. The learning honesty never stops (neither does the want for new props and backdrops).
Now that I have ventured into other type of photography I still get excited to receive newborn requests. Its one of the reasons I rented a studio space right away when I moved home from loving in Ottawa. I wanted a space to photograph these sweet little babies. It’s also nice to see my wedding clients again if they decide to have their own children. If you don’t…. I STILL want to see you of course! 🙂
This little man was an AMAZING sleeper and his mom and dad came totally coordinated with their outfits which made me do a little happy dance inside. I realize how hard it is to put that effort in as a new parent (I couldn’t muster up the strength to do it myself) so props to those of you who do! The one thing I have learned over time is that when you dress up for your portraits you do feel more confident and this does translate so if you can find the energy to do this it might make the session a little more fun for you.
This little guy let us roll though almost all the newborn poses and I am so thrilled with how his session turned out. I hope you love it too!
